Well i finally read the latest book from the "Big" american author Dan Brown. I have to say that i was expecting this a long time now and my feelings after reading it are mixed. Based on the other novels written by Dan Brown this was expected to be at least great. It isn't so far away from great but in the end either is the best!
But let's take it from the start. Here in Greece this novel publiced around October with a starting price of 24 euro. Having read the previous novels Angels & Demons, Da Vinci Code e.t.c. i didn't even consider to pay that money. Well the first 100 pages was indeed written by Brown! Same kind of atmosphere, same tension and same eagerness to read more. i don't want to get into details from the story so i will just stand on my feelings reading it. After reaching the middle of the book i realized that i am reading yet another exactly the same book as before with the same character (Robert Langton) and with the same type of thriller. I started to get bored and started imagine what it will happen next! Not so weird but i was just about right with my guesses in the plot and that was not at all fun! Reaching to the end i was ready to face the unbelievable, knowing Brown's legendary endings. I wished for! Another dissapointment was there for me. Poor plotline even more poorness for the dialoques. To sum up the pros and the cons i think that this novel delivers the following: Brown's style keeps the pages turning as readers try to connect the dots.Symbols and mythology in a familiar setting provides a fun chance to toy with conspiracy theories.'The Lost Symbol' does not require much effort to read.A familiar formula & mediocre dialogue keep Brown from accomplishing anything new.'The Lost Symbol' becomes tedious when it strays from plot and tries to make profound points. The "national security crisis," when revealed, falls short of the build up and character reactions.Long, less-than-captivating denouement.
I guess if you are so much of a fan, you have to read it but otherwise i think it is another good "beach reading" book. It is 669 pages so i hope your vacation will last long enough!
